The Happiest Dog Ever

Here's a really cute video! –Kim

Frank, the Happiest Dog Ever

by Rafael Borges

This is Frank, a 1.5 year old dog that only wanted some love and care to be happy. Now he is so happy that, even when sleeping, he shows it.

I did this video to show how can one change the life a being with only love and care.

When my wife and I spoke with the previous owner, we were sure that he would die in a few days. He was 5 months old and weighed only 6.6 pounds (3 kg).

When we arrived to see him, we saw that it was even worse: the owner had no experience in dog caring, he was locked outside in a 50 ft2 (5 m2) ceramic tiles back area, fed only with adult dog food, shedding excessively and unbearable smelly. His only friend was a torn blanket.

We can't be sure, but we suspect that this mistreatment lead to the worse for him: he became totally deaf. We suspect that an overlooked infection did this to him. I even taught him sign language! Frank has learned several commands, and we are very well adapted to the situation. I'm very proud of it!

When we got him, he was afraid of shadows, glimmerings, peed on everything (including himself), had no tail wagging and was fearful. By the way, until today, he runs for his life whenever he sees a broom....

Now, it's moving to see him enjoying his dreams so much that he even wags his tail, and realising that we saved a life, bringing him happiness.

So please, if you can, spread the adoption idea (and this video). You too can safe a life.

Baby and Puppy Video

Here's the cutest video that I thought I would pass on! –Kim

Baby Busts Up when Pup Busts Bubbles!

Nothing is more entertaining to this adorable, laughing baby than her dog diving at a burst of bubbles and popping them before they hit the floor. (We recommend using edible bubbles made specifically for dogs...or cats!)

Source: Dr. Karen Becker

Here's what the YouTube poster says:
On a lazy day, I decided to try blowing bubbles for my daughter, Molly. At first, she didn't think they were "all that," but then Bennie, the dog, showed Molly how much fun bubbles can be. Molly thought Bennie's bubble popping was the funniest thing she has seen in her 9½ months!

A little background info on Bennie: We adopted Bennie from a shelter in Central Illinois in 2008. They told us that he is a German Shepherd and Beagle mix. We would not be surprised to find out that he has other breeds mixed in as well!

How to Wash a Cat...

Posted by — Kim in , , ,

Here are some cute instructions that I thought I would pass on to anyone with both a dog and cat. My apologies in advance to all cat-only owners! –Kim

How to Wash a Cat...

  1. Lift both lids of the toilet and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.
  2. Pick up the cat and soothe him/her while you carry him/her towards the bathroom.
  3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close the lids. You may need to stand on the lids.
  4. At this point the cat will self-agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this!
  5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a 'Power-wash' and 'Rinse.'
  6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.
  7. Stand well back, behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift the lids.
  8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and run outside where he/she will air-dry himself/herself.
  9. Both the toilet and the cat will be sparkling clean!
Yours sincerely,
The Dog

These dogs in costume are not amused. You probably think dressing up your animal as another animal is adorable and hilarious, but did you ever ask your pets how they felt about it? These Corgis don't think it's all that funny, thank you very much.

Dogs Make the Best Valentines

Posted by — Kim in , , , , , , ,

Here's a cute "Top 10" list about Valentines Day with your "best friend"! –Kim

10 Reasons Dogs Make the Best Valentines

Whether you've got a (human) sweetheart or not this February 14th, we all know the doggone truth: dogs make the best valentines! Read our Top 10 reasons why, and then tell us what makes your dog is the perfect valentine!

10. A dog never complains when you want to spend the night on the couch in sweatpants watching a New Girl marathon.

9. What five pound weight gain? Your dog didn't notice – or say anything when you sucked in your stomach on the scale.

8. Not only does your dog not mind eating leftovers, he actually prefers it.

7. You don't have to be self-conscious about needing a pedicure when a dog licks your toes.

6. Your morning breath is never going to be as bad as your dog's.

5. Your big, strong dog makes you feel safer than any alarm system.

4. Your dog will happily listen to you complain about your boss's/mother's/ex's wardrobe for the millionth time.

3. Your dog doesn't judge you for needing to slow down and take a breather on your run together; he's just happy to spend time with you.

2. Dogs don't steal the blankets at night. They do, however, fart in bed – so consider yourself warned!

1. No one in the universe loves you more than your dog.

She Doesn't Answer the Phone

Posted by — Kim in , , , , , , , , , ,

Here's a really humorous letter that I think you'll enjoy... –Kim

Harboring an Unlicensed Dog

In 1951, E.B. White — the novelist responsible for, most notably, Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little — was accused by the ASPCA of not paying his dog tax and, as a result, "harboring" an unlicensed dog. He responded by way of the following delightful letter.

E.B. White & MinnieSource: Letters of a Nation; Image: E.B. White with his dachshund, Minnie, via Mister Crew.

12 April 1951

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
York Avenue and East 92nd Street
New York, 28, NY

Dear Sirs:

I have your letter, undated, saying that I am harboring an unlicensed dog in violation Minnieof the law. If by "harboring" you mean getting up two or three times every night to pull Minnie's blanket up over her, I am harboring a dog all right. The blanket keeps slipping off. I suppose you are wondering by now why I don't get her a sweater instead. That's a joke on you. She has a knitted sweater, but she doesn't like to wear it for sleeping; her legs are so short they work out of a sweater and her toenails get caught in the mesh, and this disturbs her rest. If Minnie doesn't get her rest, she feels it right away. I do myself, and of course with this night duty of mine, the way the blanket slips and all, I haven't had any real rest in years. Minnie is twelve.

In spite of what your inspector reported, she has a license. She is licensed in the State of Maine as an unspayed bitch, or what is more commonly called an "unspaded" bitch. She wears her metal license tag but I must say I don't particularly care for it, as it is in the shape of a hydrant, which seems to me a feeble gag, besides being pointless in the E.B. White & Minniecase of a female. It is hard to believe that any state in the Union would circulate a gag like that and make people pay money for it, but Maine is always thinking of something. Maine puts up roadside crosses along the highways to mark the spots where people have lost their lives in motor accidents, so the highways are beginning to take on the appearance of a cemetery, and motoring in Maine has become a solemn experience, when one thinks mostly about death. I was driving along a road near Kittery the other day thinking about death and all of a sudden I heard the spring peepers. That changed me right away and I suddenly thought about life. It was the nicest feeling.

You asked about Minnie's name, sex, breed, and phone number. She doesn't answer the phone. She is a dachshund and can't reach it, but she wouldn't answer it even if she could, as she has no interest in outside calls. I did have a dachshund once, a male, who was interested in the telephone, and who got a great many calls, but Fred was an exceptional dog (his name was Fred) and I can't think of anything offhand that he wasn't interested in. The telephone was only one of a thousand things. He loved life — that is, he loved life if by "life" you mean "trouble," and of course the phone is almost synonymous with trouble. Minnie loves life, too, but her idea of life is a warm bed, preferably with an electric pad, and a friend in bed with her, and plenty of shut-eye, night and days. She's almost twelve. I guess I've already mentioned that. I got her from Dr. Clarence Little in 1939. He was using dachshunds in his cancer-research experiments (that was before Winchell was running the Katharine & E.B. White and Minniething) and he had a couple of extra puppies, so I wheedled Minnie out of him. She later had puppies by her own father, at Dr. Little's request. What do you think about that for a scandal? I know what Fred thought about it. He was some put out.

Sincerely yours,
E.B. White

If I Didn't Have a Dog...

Posted by — Kim in , , , , , , ,

Here are some great quotes that I thought I would pass on...hope you can relate! –Kim
I came across this on the Web this week:
"Until one has loved an animal, part of their soul remains unawakened."

If I Didn't Have a Dog...
I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.
All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture and cars would be free of hair.
When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel.
When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.
I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.
I would have money and no guilt to go on a real vacation.
I would not be on a first-name basis with numerous veterinarians, as I put their yet unborn grand kids through college.
The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE.
My house would not look like a day care center, with toys everywhere.
I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.
I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog/cat ties them down too much.
I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of dreading 'mud' season.
I would not have to answer the question: 'Why do you have so many animals?' from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by someone as close to an angel as they will ever get.
How EMPTY my life would be!!!
