Adoption is not a short-term hobby. It's a lifelong commitment. Innocent dogs like this don't understand why their owner/family dumped them at a kill shelter. There may be lots of reasons, but in the end, the dog pays the price with his or her own life. Before you go to a breeder or retail pet store, visit a local shelter (see below).
